Describe a meaningful family tradition unique to your culture and explain how it mirrors or contrasts with the cultural identity themes of expectations and roles in "Girl" by Jamaica Kincaid.

Prompt Response: A very meaningful family tradition unique to my culture is having a quinceanera also known as a fifteens. This is very important in my Hispanic culture meaning that it is an age in a female's life that represents going into womanhood. In the poem "Girl" by Jamaica Kincaid, the daughter is expected to mature early in her life which is also a high standard in my culture. You are expected to act like a woman, cook like a woman, clean like a woman, dress like a woman, your daily life has to be like a grown woman's. Everything you do after you turn 15 is who you let yourself out to be just so that others can see.

Summary: Tuesday August 12th, 2025, Today we were reminded of the 4 questions that were given as an assignment for the poem "Girl", then were given our blog post to answer.

Reflection: The female expectations in the poem "Girl" by Jamaica Kincaid are very relatable because I feel like every female is expected to grow up a certain way. My culture is very dear to me, although I am american, I like to express the backgrounds that my parents came from and I tend to try and live up to their expectations.
