Reflect on how your cultural heritage shapes your daily expectations, inspired by "Girl" by Jamaica Kincaid.

Prompt Response: The daily expectations are highly influenced by my cultural heritage, my life consists of well respected manners, prioritizing my family, cleaning daily, helping with cooking dinner and sitting up the table, to always keep clean. As a Hispanic female your expectations are highly viewed and it is a thing that you need to sacrifice from time to time. The poem "Girl" by Jamaica Kincaid is a very relatable poem that many can compare their cultural heritage to, by just discussing and comparing how people's cultural heritage define them as the person they are expected to be.

Summary:  Monday August 11th, 2025, we discussed what cultural identity is and as well read "Girl" by Jamaica Kincaid.

Reflection: Looking back the expectations from my cultural heritage have always been the same and have been passed down by generations which is a part of my cultural identity. This poem is a great example of connection since lots of people tend to follow the expectations of their cultural heritage which is something that I tend to do.
